Husband update, 13th Nov

Hi,

Another day at the hospital, been a bad day in many ways but also a informative day.

A great doctor was by, but even her which supports every effort possible to keep any body part as possible had to give the advice of amputation due to no blood flow…
She cut in his wound on the foot, no blood… 😦

His toe 2 & 3 is starting to die it seems, this is going bad.

Tore is handling this great I must admit, he makes me proud, but this is a hard decision to make.

But, we are on the way home now, so I leave it at this for now.

Take care

Linda

Husband update, 12th Nov

Hi,

Is a long day at the hospital today, been her since 09:15 and it is now 12:38 and we still waiting.

The wound been unpacked for an hour now, we been waiting for some specialist to see his foot – one has been her already that saw it a day or so after they cut Tore’s foot open some weeks back. And, in his opinion this is no good, there is no healing and a slim like 1% or less chance for it to ever heal it self…
To treat with a vacuum thingy they have he was not optimistic at all, 99% chance it will never work…
But, he wanted a second opinion, and that is what we are waiting for now…

Other then that, the toe number 4 is black and awful, starting to get more red under too, starts to smell a little maybe too..
Tore has two blemishes on his toe 2 & 3 too, they been growing since this weekend, and they look awful today, skin been cracked and they have big red spots on them… 😦
The wound it self looks not as dark as yesterday, but hope is getting low mentally now.

The specialist said that as long as Tore can walk around and move his foot the way he can now, and is willing to to dress/clean the wound every day, he can keep his foot with no problem…
It sounds awful, walking around with open wounds like this, but the alternative is worse maybe, to cut it off up around the knee…

Time will tell, but we have long awful times ahead I see here, feel here, and I just wonder what next is in line of bad stuff to happen…

Take care

Linda

Husband update, 10th Nov

Hi,

Today been a long but short day…

It’s hard to describe it, but it is not a bad day to say it so.

I was up early, by 8 this morning I was on my way into the hospital to visit and potential pick up Tore, and I came in to his room at 09:10 this morning to find him sitting in a chair playing a computer game called Mah Jong on the user screen they have in the rooms.

He looked in good shape, and sounded in good spirit. πŸ™‚

I had not been there more then maximum 5 minutes before a doctor/surgeon and a nurse came in to have a look at Tore’s foot.
Had not even been able to get the laptop up and running…
This doctor was in my opinion a informative doctor, he talked a little to much about amputation for Tore’s liking, but I found it interesting that he showed where it might be cut of if it has to come to that in the future. For now, it is only an option – a sort of easy way out so to speak as the wound it don’t seem to want to heal at all.
But, if Tore wants to, and is able to walk on the foot – of course there was no problem with Tore keeping the foot, large holes and all. πŸ™‚
He just wanted to let Tore know there is the amputation option, and what it might mean to Tore to have it done.
Being this came so strongly today, it was not possible for Tore to keep to his normal self, he is a very strong man my husband Tore, and I’m impressed and proud over him for the way he deals with this stuff.
The way he don’t hide from his emotions, the way he let them speak to him, taste them, feel them – he made me very proud of him today! This is in my opnion the best way to deal with the fact that one day he might have to amputate his foot.
But so far, not a need to, thankfully.

There is different opinion among the doctors, the foot and the wounds there heals very slowly, if at all, but this is a known problem for people with diabetes so time is out friend here, if Tore can stand the time it takes, no problem.

Of course, he can not stay in the hospital for ever, he from today of have started a trial with coming home with me and just drive down to the hospital for the wound dressing and cleaning every morning for the time being – as they said yesterday, as few hands as possible to handle these wounds on his foot.
And, work with the pills they give him to try to make the blood more liquid/thinner.

Time will tell, but for now I don’t have to be alone – which is a good thing from my point of view! πŸ™‚

Take care of your self and your family.

Best wishes as always

Linda

Husband update, 9th Nov

Hi,

Back at the hospital for dressing of the wound and a doctor’s visit. A man who saw Tore a week or so back, he was disappointed to see the wound not healing up as much as one normally would have expected a wound to heal up – but that is one of the problems with being a diabetic, having wound heal very slowly or not at all…

Again today Tore was given the chance to go home again, but today he declined it as he felt very tired and wanted to rest his body here.
Being it is a 1 hour drive each way, who can blame him… I drives this distance every day, been doing it for 30 days or so now, and so look forward to the day I don’t have to do it.
Seem to be in a distant future…

The offer of coming her every day for dressing/changing on the wound and a surgeon/doctor’s check is still valid, and we discuss about maybe taking this offer from tomorrow off.
For me it don’t matter in the driving part as I do it every day to visit Tore – but for the use of the day I prefer to go down her, change the wound, go back home. πŸ™‚

It is important that as few hands as possible deals with this wound, keep an eye on it, and noticing changes in it.
It is also important that it is done her in this department of the hospital, they have the expertise here, and they know his wound now. πŸ™‚

He is so special that earlier today a doctor came to ask him if it was okay for him (Tore) that a groups of students came and had a look of his wound – that felt like a honor said Tore afterwords.
This doctor loved the pictures Linda been taking every day she been in here with Tore, a wonderful documentation so to speak. πŸ™‚

Of other news, not much, the wound looks like normally, toe number 2 & 3 has now grown bulges in the tip of them with liquids of some unknown type, I guess blood, being normally a bad thing, unknown what it means here.
